Zenuari day 31: Your favorite

To finish Zenuari, we're making a tile with our favorite tangles, prompts, pens etc.
I made a combination of the prompts 'Tango' and 'Organic' and used Marasu becoming Btl Joos, next to Flux and Pais. A Sakura Micron fineliner is my alltime favorite pen!

Thank you very much for Zenuari, Anoeska! I really enjoyed participating and meeting fellow tanglers :-)

Zenuari day 29: Donut

We're making a donut filled with tangles :-) The ingredients I used are all patterns of Helen Williams: Batch, Heartbox, Leaflet, Sails and Heartstrings.

Alphabet challenge #43: D, N, E

Diane and Carolien challenge us to create a tile with patterns starting with D, N and E. I used Drip-Drop, Nvelope and Eyehook and decided to keep it simple :-)

Zenuari day 28: restrict yourself

Today we're choosing 5 tangles before we start drawing, and we only use these (all of them and no others). I chose Dugwood, Fandance, Fengle, JJ and Indy-Rella.

It's a String Thing #129

Adele Bruno asks us to use string 169 and some lovely patterns: Caught, LG and LaBel. Since there's so many hearts involved, I gave the tile a red frame ;-)

Joey's challenge #97

This week we create the last piece to add to Joey's 'collection of musical challenges.

She chose string 121, which is a music note, and we're to use the tangle Pais. Another nice challenge! :-)

I didn't listen to music this time, nor was I aware of other sounds. Somehow I was lost in a zentangle 'bubble' ;-)

Zenuari day 25: tangles of my idol

Today's prompt is to chose tangles of designers we admire. I like many people's work, but today I chose Sandy Steen Bartolomew, of whom I used a couple of my favorite patterns: Quip, Xyp, Abacus, Zander and Sporktime.

Diva's challenge #252

Laura is challenging us to tangle within a tangle. Nice idea! I chose N'Zeppel as my string and filled it with Hollibaugh, Hurry, Bales and Keeko.

Thanks for visiting my blog! Your comments brighten my day :-)

Zenuari day 24: Canomo

Today we're tangling Anoeska's tangle Canomo. It was my first time using this one, and I found it quite difficult to do. Oh well, some patterns appear to be more suitable for your hand than others ;-)

I combined Canono with two tangles I don't use much often either: Zippie and Zanella.

Zenuari day 23: Duo-pencil string

Today we're drawing a string while holding two pencils in our hand. So I did :-) and I filled the tile with Heartstrings, Ixorus and Jonqual.

Zenuari day 21: Bring your own drinks

Spill your drink on a tile and use it as a string: that's today's Zenuari prompt. I chose to put some red port on my tile and doodled around it.

So... this is what red port looks like on paper :-)

It's a String Thing #128

For Adele Bruno'schallenge, we're using string 129 and the tangles Hypnotic and Paradox. Nice!

Zenuari day 20: Just grid tangles

Today, we're just using grid tangles. I decided to mix them up to create some sort of 'zentangle quilt'.
The patterns I used, are: Nvelope, Yincut, Quiltz, Ilana, Lacy, Navaho, Yew-dee and Weave.

Joey's challenge #96

Another musical challenge by Joey. To answer her question: I either play music while tangling, or I'm quiet with no music nor humming a tune out loud or in my head. It's one or the other with me ;-)

This is my tile with Joey's 'natural' string, filled with Chillon.

Diva's challenge #251

To raise awareness for the Moebius Syndrome, Laura asks us (like she did previous years) to use the Foundation's logo as a string. Her youngest son has this syndrome, and I wish them all the best!

I support the idea of raising more awareness, so here's my Moebius tile. I filled it with the pattern 100 and put some CO2 in the background.

Thanks for visiting my blog, you're comments are much appreciated :-)

Zenuari day 18: Organic

Today's prompt is to create a tile with an organic look and feel, starting with 1 tangle and just let it 'grow' with whatever happens.

I started with Tripoli - and was very inspired by Michele Beauchamps beautiful work.

Zenuari day #17: Zendala

I don't make zendala's very often, so it's nice to have a prompt like this in Zenuari.

Alphabet challenge #41: Y-M-#

The Zenuari prompts consume much of my tangling time ;-) but today I found a moment to participate in Diane and Carolien's challenge.

They're asking us to fill a tile with patterns starting with Y, M and # (a number). I chose Yam, Meer, Moving Day and 4Mom.

Zenuari day 16: Unusual string

This is a very unusual string, just like the prompt expects ;-) In fact, it's not really a string, but a watercolour background on which I drew some tangles.

The colours reminder me of an organic setting, so I tangled Bluebonnets, Zinger and Btl Joos.

I think it looks OK, but for now I would like to go back to tangling black on white tiles again :-))

Zenuari day 15: Black out

Today's prompt asks us to 'black out' a part of the tile. I did so by using black watercolour, to create a string, and then I filled up the tile with Sand Swirl, Tipple and Tour.

Joey's challenge #095

Joey's challenge has another musical theme. I did play music while tangling, which I like to do, but I found it quite hard to give Knightsbridge a right 'place' in the string provided.

So: I just played around and added some  non-official patterns to three parts of Knightsbridge.

Zenuari day 14: Zengems

Zengems are very populair at the moment, but I hadn't tried to make them yet. Somehow I didn't feel like it, because I'm quite attached to creating 'black on white' tiles.

But... today's Zenuari prompt is to try and make zengems. There's an instruction for making them on black, which I like, so I gave it a go. I wanted to do it a little different, so I draw a variation of Auraknot and filled it up with gems. Thank you, Anoeska, for letting me discover these gems :-)

Zenuari day 13: Bijou series

Choose a subject and create a serie of Bijou tiles: that's today's prompt. My 'subject' is tangling patterns made by Helen Williams. The tangles I chose are 2/8's, Sails and Zag-V. A nice way to explore these patterns :-)

Zenuari day 12: Black

Today we're tangling on a black tile. I drew Mumsy and some other organic shapes. The effect of white on black always surprises me!

Diva challenge #250

So this is what it looks like: a tile brought back to the Old School. No composition in mind or thoughts about the final result.

Just a square white tile, string #048 and four tangles: Bloom, Borbz, Crescent Moon, Crux.

Thank you Laura, for this relaxing challenge :-)

Zenuari day 11: Name tangle

Today we're tangling a tile with only tangles which name starts with the first letter of our name. An i in my case and I had fun with Ixorus, Inapod and Indy-rella :-)

Zenuari day 10: Tangle hunt

Today's prompt is to hunt for tangles: patterns you discover around you. Existing tangles, or patterns you create by looking at something 'in real life'.

I combined these possibilities: the pattern bottom right is a tangle I created by looking at... my tea mug :-) which has a pattern looking a bit like this.

The pattern in the top is something I drew after looking at a decorated fence, and bottom left you see the existing tangle 8C.

What do you think: should I make a step-out for the 'tea mug tangle'? Or does it maybe exist already?

Zenuari day 9: Monotangle

Monotangles: I love them!
For this Zenuari prompt, I decided to try and use a difficult (to me) pattern: MI2. A good way to practice this tangle :-)

Zenuari day 8: Roll the dice

We're to roll the dice six times and each number is linked to the name of a tangle in a special list Anoeska made. This means I want to use a string pattern that consists of at least six parts - and then I start to puzzle with the 'chosen' patterns.

I chose string #110 and had to fill it with Wud, Arukas, Quib, Jetties, Jalousie and Hurry. Patterns I would not have chosen myself to use together in 1 tile. Especially Quib doesn't really fit in, but hey: that's life :-)

Joey's challenge #94

Participating in Zenuari (daily!) means there's not much time left to create other tiles. Today, I have a more time to relax, so I started with Joey's challenge.

She has composed a new theme to think about the next couple of weeks: music inspired artwork.

To answer this week's question: whether I prefer to play music while tangling or not, really depends on my state of mind. I do both, but this tile was created while music played. I don't think it influenced the result though ;-)

Zenuari day 7: Notan

This tile is made with the Notan technique. It's the second time I've ever done this, I quite like to create a tile this way.

You can see my first tile and some more info about Notan here

Zenuari day 6: Tweak

Today, the prompt is to 'tweak' our Mac and Cheese tangle. Meaning: change your favorite tangle slightly to improve it.

One of my favorite tangles is ING, so I've been tweakING :-)

Tuesday, 5 January 2016

Zenuari day 5: Tango

Today's prompt is to let tangles 'tango' together: let them melt from one into another.

Out of my Chillon ball you can see Ojo and Rain coming to life ;-)

Diva #249 meets Zenuari day 4

Participating in Anoeska's Zenuari means that I am tangling every day. This is fun (!) but I also like to participate in some challenges, like the one from Laura, 'the Diva'. So: I tried to combine the prompt of Anoeska (use a tangle as a frame) with Laura's challenge (make a duotangle with Diva Dance and Auraknot).

Since we're celebrating The Diva challenge's 5th Birthday (hurray, congratulations Laura, and many thanks!) I decided to draw Diva Dance stage curtains (as a frame) and put (L)auraknot as a shining star on stage :-)

Zenuari day 3: New to me

Today's prompt is to use tangles that are new to me. I used Plop, Bala and Wedge. And added a (not new to me ;-) ) little Paradox in the top right corner.

Not completely satisfied with the composition, but it was nice to try out new patterns. I liked Plop (bottom right) the most :-)

Zenuari day 2: Back to Basics

Since yesterday, I'm participating in the Zenuari prompts of Akseona (at Instagram). There are prompts for every day in January. After yesterday's 'Fireworks', today we go Back to Basics.

The tangles I used in string 185 are Crescent Moon, Printemps, Shattuck, Knightsbridge, Hollibaugh, Nipa and Fescu.
